Activation Products and Atumnus Life Sciences Announce Formulation Collaboration for the Opticeutical Category
Ian Clark joins Atumnus Life Sciences as Founding Curator as the two organizations begin developing peptide-class bioregulator formulations under the Opticeutical Standard.
Atumnus Life Sciences and Activation Products today announce a formal collaboration to develop and bring to market a portfolio of peptide-class bioregulator formulations under the Opticeutical Standard. In conjunction with the collaboration, Activation Products founder Ian Clark joins Atumnus Life Sciences as Founding Curator, taking a founding-tier equity position in the Opticeutical category alongside the existing Atumnus founding team.
The collaboration is the first publicly announced manufacturing and formulation partnership under the Opticeutical Standard since its publication earlier this year. It is also the inflection point at which the category moves from published framework into operational expression. The first products developed under the partnership are in early-stage formulation. Public introduction is anticipated as each product completes qualification under the six-pillar standard.
Why Ian Clark, and why now
Activation Products has spent the better part of two decades doing the work that the Opticeutical Standard now formalises at the category level. Ian Clark founded Activation in 2014, after a 2004 health crisis that prompted him to spend years travelling globally in search of formulations that operated on the body's own regulatory systems rather than against them. Activation's product line — including liposomal magnesium, black cumin oil, marine phytoplankton, and other heritage compositions — has been built around a discipline of source verification, single-batch testing, and refusal to substitute lower-grade ingredients for cost reasons. The discipline matches, point for point, the sourcing and verification pillars of the Opticeutical Standard.
Bringing Ian into Atumnus as Founding Curator does two things. First, it formalises a working relationship that has been substantive for some time. Second, it places a category-relevant track record at the centre of the category's founding team. The Founding Curator role specifically anchors Ian's responsibility for sourcing integrity, formulation discovery, and the institutional knowledge of what works that the Opticeutical Standard's sourcing pillar codifies.
“Activation Products has spent the better part of two decades doing the work the Opticeutical Standard now formalises at the category level. The partnership formalises what was already happening.”
On the Founding Curator role
The Founding Curator title at Atumnus is the institutional name for a function that the bioregulator IP company requires but that conventional life sciences titles do not capture. The Curator is responsible for the discovery, qualification, and stewardship of the raw material sourcing that the category depends on. Where the Founder/CTO position holds the technical and IP architecture, and the Founder/CEO position holds the commercial and strategic direction, the Founding Curator holds the inputs — the relationships, the sourcing knowledge, and the formulation heritage that distinguishes an Opticeutical-qualified product from a generic supplement.
The title echoes Ian's prior role as Curator of Longevity Protocols at Healing Modalities Research, where he conducted similar discovery work from 2007 to 2014 before founding Activation. The institutional continuity is intentional. The discipline that Ian has been practising for nearly two decades is the discipline the Opticeutical category was built around.
What the collaboration is building toward
Under the collaboration, Atumnus contributes the intellectual property — trade-named peptide-class compositions, the Opti-Salt™ therapeutic salt carrier system, and the delivery platform portfolio — and the published standard against which products will be qualified. Activation Products contributes manufacturing capability under its existing cGMP-aligned production infrastructure, the heritage sourcing relationships that the broader Atumnus portfolio benefits from, and the consumer-facing reach that an established direct-to-consumer brand provides.
The first formulations under development pair peptide-class bioregulator actives with Opti-Salt™ carrier chemistry and Activation's existing source-verified raw material inputs. The specific compound architectures and product positioning are not disclosed at this stage. Each product will be announced individually as it completes qualification under the six-pillar Opticeutical Standard. None will bear the Opticeutical designation until each pillar is met and verified.
What this signals for the broader category
The collaboration is a template, not a closed arrangement. The Opticeutical category is structured to accommodate multiple manufacturing partners, multiple brand expressions, and multiple distribution channels. Activation Products is the first publicly named manufacturing and formulation partner under the standard. Additional partners — across both consumer brand and clinical channel — will be announced as their qualification under the standard is completed.
Inquiries from prospective manufacturing, formulation, brand, or distribution partners interested in operating under the Opticeutical Standard are routed through the partnerships channel. The architecture of the category — published standard, IP licensing, third-party verification — is designed specifically to enable qualified entrants. The intention is not exclusivity. The intention is qualification, applied consistently.
On the existing Activation Products line
Activation Products continues to operate independently under its existing brand and product line. Products currently in the Activation portfolio are not being rebranded or repositioned under the Opticeutical designation. New formulations developed under the collaboration will carry the Opticeutical designation when they qualify. Existing Activation products remain Activation products. The two brands and the two product lines coexist by design.
